Gertie Burke McGivern came to New York in 1929
to visit her brother Tommy and never returned to Belfast.
Thomas McGivern arrived in New York
on June 5, 1927 on the ship Adriatic by way of Liverpool.

Thomas McGivern in Ireland. He joined the army of
the Irish free republic in 1923 before coming to the United States

Tom McGivern was active in and president of this group
which helped famiies from Belfast master the difficulties of New York
as well as sponsor Irish football teams in America for competition.
Gertrude Burke McGivern died in 2001
within a week of her son Gary McGivern.
She had spent a good deal of her adult life visiting him in prison.
